Untold stories by a serial entrepreneur
Larry Ho: Writer of Taiwan's best-selling object-oriented programming book, programmer, geek, raised 25M USD in his 20's, had to shutdown during the .com bubble, ventured into China, and finally succeeding in Bay Area -- Larry Ho is one of Taiwan's few seasoned serial entrepreneurs who's experienced two financial crisis, failures and successes, and ran software, Internet, as well as now, a hardware startup.

Wayne Huang: Wrote the last book published by Larry's Inforian book publisher startup, then competed with Larry's CICQ head-to-head by developing AceCall, then started Armorize and in 2008 had to tell his land lore that Armorize might be shutting down and owning rent, then successfully scaled Armorize globally and ultimately sold to Proofpoint, then now as VP Engineering to Proofpoint.

With the recent China stock crisis leading to an imminent global setback, listen as Wayne moderates this panel for Larry, and as Larry shares his experiences on:

a) Lessons learned from the 2000 and 2008 crisis.

b) Picking your office: Taiwan, in China, or the US?

c) When to take venture capital? When to exit?

d) Where to build your operations?

e) For crowdfunding campaigns, where to manufacture?

f) Branding and marketing into the US market

g) Life lessons learned as a serial entrepreneur

SXSW Q&A: Building The Most Internationally Valued Event
SXSW has been the inspiration for so many technology events in the world. Since the last millenium it has been one of the top places to discover the technology of tomorrow today.

Twitter was unveiled at the 2007 South by Southwest Interactive Festival. Twitter was first used in South by Southwest, but the organizers didn’t think it had any use outside of that. It really began to gain traction with the mainstream audience two or three years afterwards.

How did SXSW Interactive go from a money loser into a cultural phenomenon all its own?

How to build international awareness of the community and be appealing for the world to join?

How does an event help build an ecosystem?

The producer and strategist of SXSW will be sharing his insights!

Transforming to a global-class young entrepreneur.
Rise from the “臺灣小池” to global-class entrepreneurship.

Various Taiwan companies work so hard (拼命!) to help leading global corporations make amazing profits. Their Taiwanese employees become exhausted, and lose life balance. The Taiwan companies make tiny profits, while their global partners dominate everyone and build amazing wealth.

Will your start-up fall in to this “New Taiwan Trap”? (Or, will your pre-start-up corporate career suck the life out of you?)

Are you ready to serve multiple customer segments across our multi-cultural world? What must you learn... to impress and collaborate with the best global partners – with equality and mutual respect?

Our brief 20 minute session will distill the most crucial lessons, tricks and principles for young Taiwanese to gradually reach equality with global-class performers. Gary Lewis has accumulated and honed these methods over 18 years in America and 10 years in Taiwan – advising and training thousands of high-achieving professionals from 300+ respected companies.

We will help you understand the underlying strategic, marketing and logic strengths of top Western high-growth, high-profit, balanced-life companies. The Western education system trains top achievers systematic logic, persuasion, mutual empowerment and creative innovation... beginning around age 10 years-old. We will suggest paths for you to develop these strengths for yourself.

Equally crucial, this session respects your strengths – Taiwan's unique competencies. We discuss how to leverage and portray your advantages to gain eager acceptance, to “level the playing field” and influence global-class partners to prize you and share rewards fairly. The prejudices and arrogance of Many American and European companies leads them to trivialize (小看)or ignore your crucial value. We discuss how to derail their tendency to exploit you.

You'll learn strategies, tactics, powerful ways to communicate, and how to avoid wasting time and energy on low-value learning. For example, we show examples of how to reduce your English learning burden... How to use simple grammar yet sound sophisticated; How to use cross-cultural communications skills to connect and impress even with easy English.

Gary will share “the overlooked keys” to cross-cultural entrepreneurial and business collaboration that he's used across America and in Europe, Latin America, Turkey, Africa, China, and of course: Taiwan. Dare to become Global-Class, working somewhat hard – but extremely smart.

Who will take the reins: sustaining family business success across generations
Taiwan's had a lot of very successful small medium businesses. Many of their second generation grew up or received education broad, and came back to Taiwan, well-educated, traveled, learned, and began their efforts in escalating or re-inventing the family business.

Yet it's never easy -- generation gaps lead to difficult communication, and many of the circumstances that created Taiwan's economic success no longer exist today.

Is there a formula for success to this endeavor?
What are the most common challenges? How and when will Taiwan's next generation business owners create a new age of prosperity for Taiwan?
